The CFMEU Victorian Branch today announced that it would donate $10,000 to the Les Twentyman Foundation.
The donation comes after the fire destroyed the Little Saigon Market which also housed his back-to-school programme library for students who can’t afford to buy their own textbooks. The space was also being used to store presents for the Foundation’s Christmas party.
“I saw the fire as I was heading into work this morning and I was horrified to hear that along with the loss to the local traders, the Market also housed Les’ back-to-school programme. I’m a boy from Footscray and I know how important Les’ work is for the local community,” CFMEU State Secretary, John Setka said.
“The CFMEU is a big family and we know how to pull together in times of hardship. This morning I met with my Branch Management Committee and they didn’t hesitate to agree that we should make this contribution. I couldn’t be more proud to be a boy from Footscray who’s now in a position to give to this great cause,” Mr Setka said.
The CFMEU will be encouraging its members to also contribute to the Foundation.
